Jugiong, NSW
No longer the best kept secret of the Hilltops, the town of Jugiong has become a must-visit destination. Nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, 90 minutes from Canberra and only 20 minutes to Gundagai, Jugiong has everything any country town should, including one of the best pubs in the country.
Whether you’re after a great pub lunch, gorgeous boutique accommodation, a curated shopping experience, or just a delicious coffee-stop on your road trip – you’ll find it all in Jugiong.
You really won’t find a better way to spend a lovely slow weekend in the countryside than setting off down the Hume, checking in to The Sir George, having a browse at Curators Collective, grabbing a delicious dinner from the restaurant, as well as a few drinks with the locals at the pub, and grabbing a coffee from Long Track Pantry on your way home in the morning.
THE SIR GEORGE
I almost always plan trips around where to stay – and Jugiong has some of the best accommodation going. The owners of The Sir George meticulously renovated their 1845 Stone Stables into three luxurious rooms, perfect for couples. With simple but luxe styling, the original features of the rooms have been given a modern makeover. The Sir George also has eight Black Barns on offer if you need some more room (for little ones, or if you’re like me and can’t pack lightly). These are modern country at it’s best – minimal luxe with all the essentials – including Hale Mercantile bedding (which features in the Stables too). And the very best part – both accommodation options are just a short wander through the gardens down to the beautifully restored historic pub (and an even shorter stumble back after a night of great food and excellent wine).
