Milton, NSW

As someone who loves the smell of the ocean but dislikes the beach, Milton is the perfect coastal-adjacent countryside town. Think rolling hills and dairy cows, but only 10 minutes from the beautiful beaches of Mollymook.

I will freely admit I chose to visit here purely for the stunning Old School House Milton. I’ve long lusted after staying at Jennifer’s beautiful property, and when a last-minute cancellation came up, I snagged it straight away.

With our dreamy home away from home locked in, I planned our weekend with the help of Jennifer’s local tips, and some Instagram sleuthing. So let me save you some time – read on for all the best bits.

Milton is the perfect coast-adjacent countryside town.

Our first stop for a long lunch and an afternoon rosé was the picture-perfect Cupitt Winery. Overlooking the rolling green pastures, this is an incredible place for a charcuterie board, some in-house cheese, and a lovely glass of wine. A word of warning – this place is no secret – you will need to book. After being suitably refreshed, we headed to our accommodation.

THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE

Set on a charming property just outside the main town of Milton, The Old School House offers two accommodation options: The Loft and The Old Stables. Being the horse-lover that I am, I opted for The Old Stables and I couldn’t have been more smug with my choice. A beautiful little building, perfectly curated with rustic and classic vibes. We became fast friends with the two gorgeous border collies who live on site, and who even joined us by the fire pit for some wine and marshmallow roasting each evening. Waking up to the sound of the chickens roaming the gardens was an absolute highlight and really added to the country charm of our stay. If you’re in the market for a couple’s country getaway – look no further.

With plenty of coffee spots, incredible dining options and sweet homewares stores – we happily browsed the village, venturing out of Milton only to smell the ocean and walk along the beach at Mollymook. For our first night we had delicious Italian takeaway from The Guild to enjoy back at our perfect country cottage.  And for our last evening we opted for a stunning meal at Small Town Milton. This little bistro is a must-visit for elegant but simple dining.

For a relaxing weekend with the best of both worlds in terms of countryside and coast, I really recommend a few days in beautiful Milton.
